Weather & Climate
Turkey’s diverse regions have different climates and the coastal areas offer sailors very favourable conditions. The narrow coastlands and mountain slopes facing the Black Sea on the north, the Aegean on the west, and the Mediterranean on the south have wetter and milder winters than the interior, which often have snow and freezing conditions.
South of Istanbul the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts have mild, rainy winters and glorious hot dry summers, April to October. In the summer months the Meltemi winds give steady north to northwest breezes that peak in strength during July and August. In summer the average temperature is around 28-30°C (82-86°F).
Mountains close to the coast prevent Mediterranean influences from extending inland, giving the interior of Turkey a continental climate with distinct seasons. |
